    Location of personal settings?

New to Vista (and this forum). Does anyone know the location where Vista keeps its personal setting? I want to be able to save things such as fonts, colors of borders of applications, desktop icons etc. I have had 2 crashes with Vista so far and have spend alot of time trying to get everything back to the way I want.
    Thanks for any Help.

    See if this helps:

    And just to add:

We have no idea what you mean by "crash" nor what steps you took to rectify the issue.

That being said if a two month old computer required a full reinstall of the operating system twice then I'd seriously consider returning that computer under its warranty for replacement.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
First, the "crashes" were problems with Vista. I got fed up with being told that I didn't have the right to start or run some programs that I started stopping services to try correct this. Then I calmed down and did some research. I then used the command line "net user Administrator /active:yes" to create a true admin account. This worked but I lost all settings I had made. It was like a complete reinstall of Vista - everything was set to default.
This is when I restored an image of C:\ that I had made the week before. I want to do the command line again but don't want to spend hours "resetting" everything.
My understanding of the "backups" you suggested is that if I backup, then used the command line and then restored the backup I would be right back to square one, (without the admin account).
What I would like is to know where "setting" are located to I can copy them, change Vista and then replace new default setting with the copy I made.
Does this make sense or is there another way to go?
    Thanks

Although this is intended for transfer between computers I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Disregard the cable but check out the option to copy to external drive or burn to DVD.

Another possibility is simply to backup the Registry when you have it set as you like and then on a regular basis. ERUNT is good for that:

    ERUNT and NTREGOPT

Most of these settings are set in the registry.
