prompt to open or save pdf file on startup
Hi
Shortly after starting my laptop I get a prompt which pops up asking me to open save or cancel a pdf file called TOP100020EN0_Arvato.pdf
I didn't recognise this file so I cancelled the message a few times. I eventually downloaded this file to my desktop and checked it with virus scanner and then opened it. It is just a 2 page file explaining how to order recovery discs for my toshiba laptop.
I left the file there hoping that I would't get prompted again, but it happens each time I start my laptop.
Please can anyone tell me how to stop this. Any help greatly appreciated.

Try type "msconfig" from the RUN command.
Then from the STARTUP tab, deselect the app that ends with .pdf.
Reboot is needed to take effect.
Hope this helps!

At last, someone with the same problem as me! Mine is a bit different though, because my laptop is fine until I try to shut it down, then it opens an Adobe Reader window with nothing in it, then windows tells me it can't shut down till I have closed all my programs. Its like Adobe has been open all the time but not on the taskbar. Having shut it down and started it back up, if I look in my Internet Explorer history, there is a website called 195.182.196.14 and if I click on that it shows me the page TOP100020EN0_Arvato.pdf
If I click on that it opens, and as you say, its just instructions for ordering recovery disks.
I tried pctestcard.com's suggestion and it still does it.
Any help, anyone?

Did you find anything in MSCONFIG?
CCleaner is a bit easier to use under Tools Startup:
CCleaner - Home
If you really want to track it down try Autoruns which will show you everything that is set to auto run:
Autoruns for Windows
Adobe does have a habit of loading updaters. Look for any adobe entries as none are needed for auto starting. Of course it could also be a Toshiba entry just prompting Adobe.

Thanks for your reply.
I downloaded Autoruns and it may take a while to look through the list!

I Fixed It !!
One of the processes that was running in the background was TOPI.exe, which is the Toshiba On-Line Product Information. It has an icon in the bottom right corner, which I clicked and selected not to run at startup. It's been fine ever since.
