Open a command line by browsing the start menu to "command prompt" [under accessories], right click on the shortcut, & chose run as administrator. Give it permission or provide the password for an administrative account as necessary. Copy and paste the command "powercfg -h on" [no quotes] & hit enter to make sure that hibernation is enabled. Now restart. Open power options in control panel & look for the power "plan" that has & circle filled in & click on "change plan settings" beneath it. Now click on "change advanced power settings". Expand "power buttons and lid", expand "power button action" and choose hibernate from the drop down menu. Similarly chose Hibernate under "Start menu power button". Your computer should now enter hibernation whenever you chose the red power button on the start menu or if you hit the power button on your computer. Hope this helps.
