Ummm, didn't you download it from TrueCrypt - Downloads? Note the very first link says Documentation, and from there, it has a tutorial for beginners. It also has links to their forum where you are likely to run into folks that use it frequently.

As mentioned earlier, they also have a forum where people familiar with the program can answer your specific questions about the program. And of course "Google" is invaluable for finding definitions easily (most of the time), such as volume - which we see in computer termonology, a "volume" has nothing to do with loudness, but is like "Volume F" or "Volume J" of an encyclopedia set - a place where data with something in common is stored. So what it appears this program wants is for you to create a new volume on your hard drive that will received its own drive letter - so it behaves like a separate disk drive. This new volume is where you will save files you want encrypted.

Do note the following from the tutorial (their bold emphasis)
IMPORTANT: Note that TrueCrypt will not encrypt any existing files.

Hi! I use TrueCrypt as well and it's a very good software. Here's a guide that got me started on it. If you're still unsure perhaps I can try to explain it to you later.
