Can't install because of Vista admin!

I've never had too many problems installing any type of software, until today. I was installing Perfect Disk, when all of a sudden I received an error message that had that big ole red X on it and said "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation".

I'm like "wow, never seen that one before" but I try to never panic so I immediately Googled it and eventually traced it back to something I need to change in "the hidden the Administrator account in Vista".

One site had several pages on how to do this including: How to access the true Administrator account in Windows Vista

But I quickly learned that the steps it was referring to did not relate to my setup, for one reason or another. I have Vista Basic x64, by the way and am the only user and administrator. So I kept searching and got to an answers.yahoo page, so I tried to follow the instructions from that:

How can I logon to Administrator account in Vista OS,thanks? - Yahoo! Answers

It had me go into Computer Management, just like the other article, but it told me to expand Local Users and Groups and select the Users folder, however, at least as far as I can see, I have no Local Users and Groups. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

    I give in!

Local Users and groups is not available in vista home basic [it is only available in business/ultimate] so you can't access the "Administrator" account. This doesn't sound like a user account control problem, but you can try to turn it off & see if that helps [which I doubt]. If not it sounds like some security policy is preventing you from installing it, but I don't know what. By the way, users here are not allowed to help with pirated software [read the fine print in the terms of use]. I hate to be this way but because of your screen shot, I believe that that is what you are doing so I can not help you anymore.

    townsbg,

Thanks for the reply. I finally figured it out...I usually do! First I did a System File Check to eliminate any possibilities of problems with the file structure. Also, as soon as I walked away from my PC I realized something else...It could be a bad executable, which it was it turned out to be. Don't ask me where I got it from!

Anyway I do at least appreciate you bringing me up to date on the admin account and Vista Basic. I probably would have searched all night for that information and not found it out.

Thanks again and happy PC holidays!
