    Vista and S-video

Hello I am trying to enable viewing of avi's that I have in my laptop so as to see them on my LCD tv. I have the s-video cables and the cable that goes from the headphone jack to the amp. However I do not know how to go into my computer and enable viewing, or something like that. Please give me some advice. Thanks very much.

    Hi Dontree and welcome!

Dude! We try to be prompt, but please have patience! You posted two posts within just 2 hours of each other, surrounding midnight for many people here. All helpers are volunteers with families, jobs, other commitments and contribute their own personal time here to helping others. Many only have time to check in once a day, or less. That is how most forums on the Internet work, by the way. For a paid staff and instant access to expertise, contact your laptop maker's tech support.

Also, for future reference, faster service, and most importantly, accurate service, when asking for assistance, we need to know, on what? You can't call up a muffler shop randomly picked out the phone book and say "send me a muffler for my car", then hang up and expect the correct muffler for your exact year, "make" and "model", and with that engine, will be delivered on the next truck out.

    Please give me some advice
With all you gave us to go on, look in your manual. If you don't have it, go to the laptop maker's website and typically you see somewhere under "Support", a "Downloads" section where you enter your model number, and it should lead you to the (most recent) manual.

In there, it should talk about the "Function" key, often labeled Fn on many laptops. Pressing the Fn Key in conjunction with another key, often labeled with a monitor icon, flips the graphics output between the laptop's monitor, external monitor, other video output options, and combinations therein.

I hope that helps. Keep us posted, and if still having problems, we'll need some more information.

OK, sorry for the impatience...newbie, my sincerest apologies. I followed your instructions and am now able to view avi's on my 52" LCD....but only in black and white???? What is the next step that I should be doing in order to view them in color? I appreciate the time and help you give.

Black and White through an S-Video typically is caused by a bad or loose S-Video connection. Try another cable.

Black and white also occurs if your tv has a multi-type connection on the particular input socket/

In which case you will have to set the particular input socket to select S-Video else it's default will give you mono on a s-video plug.

It should say in your tv manual how to do this.

I have not seen that but it makes sense. Sound cards have been using connectors for years that automatically, or manually, configure for microphone, or rear speakers, depending on what is plugged into them.

    Thanks Fingees.
