Question HP Laptop won't start, very strange

Last night I came home from work and my laptop had been on all day. I had left a card inside that allows me to receive signal for HD tv and so, more specifically, the laptop had been running tv through windows media center.

Anyhow, I walked into my room and went to my closet and when I turned around I saw it had reset itself and was at the initial password screen. I entered the password and it started up then shut off randomly. Here's where it gets weird.

I turn it on again, just to make sure everything is ok. The computer starts up and there's a thick white bar of light, about as thick as a third of the screen and horizontal all the way across, slowly going up the screen and disappearing once it reaches the top. It then starts up normally, but when it gets to windows it gives me a message saying windows wouldn't start and if I want to check for problems. I say yes. It scans and then says that if windows can start up next time it will, if not, then there's a bigger problem.

I restart and that white light goes up the screen, then there's just darkness. I can hear the computer running and almost sounds normal, but the screen is definitely powered...just black.

    HELP!

(will post pics later if needed)

I'm also using a HP laptop, and Sometimes it acts really funny with shutting down Vista, but my issue is more cause from closing the lid and re-opening.. but anyhow, when i re-boot it goes black screen and will never recover until i.

    1) Remove AC Power
    2) Remove Battery from Laptop

After Killing all power sources and letting all the components discharge for a few mins, Powering it back up fixes problem and window boot no questions asked. Wierd huh, But I'm thinking its more of a power issue internally to monitor. Hope it helps
