Unhappy Vista won't boot - missing / corrupted registry! Help...

    Hi guys

    Here is what i have.

    1. A dell xps 1530 with Vista home premium, fully updated.
    2. 4GB ram and over 30 GB free on drive c: where vista is installed.

the problem: after putting my laptop thru the airport security scanner, it froze while booting up. I restarted, and it gave me an error saying "registry file missing/corrupt".

Trouble shooting already done: I put in the OEM vista cd and tried to repair the installation.
    The following tests were successful:
    • check for updates
    • system disk check
    • disk failure diagnosis
    • disk metadata test
    • target os test
    • volume content check
    • boot manager diagnosis
    • system boot log diagnosis
    • event log diagnosis
    • internal state check
    Root cause found: registry corrupt
    Repair action: registry roll back.

I also tried doing a chkdsk c: /f via the dos prompt. it corrected some errors, but it didnt result in a successful boot.

Please let me know how can i resolve this isue? I don't have a restore point.

    Regards
    Aditya

    update:

    i found 2 solutions.

1/ boot using the cd, if the startup repair tool doesnt work, run a chkdsk c: /f /r on the dos prompt.

2/ if u really cant repair, boot via an ubuntu cd, and copy all files to a backup, and reformat.
