Hey guys....What version of vista would run well on:
AMD 6000+
Asus M2NE-SLI Mobo
2Gb DDR2
2X Nvidia 8800Gtx (Running SLI)
Basicly......I have vista ultimate Running at the moment and i cant help but notice the decrease in performance to xp pro when running games....even simple things like copying a set of music files from one hard drive to another takes twice as long... i have sata2 raptor hard drives that are incredably fast as they are for gaming but i still sit and wait....xp was never this slow!
Am i doing something wrong? or should i be running a less demanding version of vista for my rig?
You should be running it fine. Do you have all important drivers installed? Chipset, etc.
Your specs are fine for Ultimate aswell.
Specs look good. Do you have SP1 installed. It speeds up file transfer for some.
Also, try Teracopy: Copy your files faster with TeraCopy
Hmmmm. yes installed sp1 aswell....cant say i notice that much of a difference....you think i could be comparing it to xp a bit to much?
This is really bugging me, but saying that i havent updates the chipset since sp1 has been released as i just totally crashed my computer....with vista and xp...could that be why is not flying along?
No....i havent updated my chipset and the driver disk that came with my mobo does not have an option to install the drivers with windows vista....it only allows me to install the sound driver.
If i try to update my chipset from the Nvidia website it...and then my computer wont boot on the restart and just restarts itself all the time.
Thanks
It sounds to me that although your other hardware is fine for Vista the Mobo don't like it as the chipset is not compatible.
Thats what i was thinking....so me being me a decided to have a little nose around and do some experimenting...the mobo chipset is NVIDIA nforce 500 SLI MCP - So i downloaded the latest nforce 520 chipset drivers and not the nforce 500 drivers from nvidia's site and its workin perfectly now.
Wierd? maybe....all is peachy now and my rig is a force to be reckoned with lmao!
Thanks to all the guys at D-A-L...always feels like home from home.
