    Not Detecting USB Drive

Not sure if this is the right place or not......

My girlfriend's Dell Inspiron 1520 (Windows Vista) is not detecting anything that I plug in to the USB drive. I've tried plugging in our digital camera so we can load pictures and it will not detect it. She also tried connecting her mp3 player and that didn't work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys.

    Hi,
Can you tell me what version your BIOS is?
Has the USB drive ever worked?
    Is the laptop new?

On start up it says BIOS Revisions A00. If there is another way to check this, please let me know and I'll do that.

Yes, the USB drive has worked before. It just stopped working within the past week or so.

The laptop is about 6 or 7 months old.

If it has gona faulty then the laptop should still be under warranty if its only 6 or 7 months old.

Right click My Computer, click PROPERTIES, click the hardware tab, click Device Manager.

Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus (USB) controller & double click.
You can right click on each of the USB Root Hubs to ensure that the ports working properly & have power, if not click troubleshoot & follow instructions for uninstalling & reinstall.

Detail instructions are available on the help menu.

Opps...I thought you were running XP, I'm not up on Vista SORRY

Well since you've got a Dell, I would suppose they offer downloads on their website.

    Drivers & Downloads

Collapse the chipset tree and see if one of those drivers does the trick. Furthermore, under utilities I spot a Dell Notebook System Software download. My guess is it may be one of those diagnostics that scan for missing manufacturer drivers and download them for you.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. My only laptop experience comes from fixing stuff for friends and relatives and dealing with my Lenovo R61 which I use for college
