vista out xp in
Im looking at a new laptop for dj'ing and have seen some good deals on acer machines with vista. No gaming no internet no dvd watching etc intended, just o/s and dj software with 2/3 usb devices
I would like to use xp as it appears, from what i have read, to be less demanding.
as i dj for up to 7 hours a time i need to be as recourse friendly as possible
I have heard a rumour that its not easy to remove vista and install xp, due to driver issues for the installed components, and in some cases bios being unsuitable for xp.
In particular i saw this
I removed Vista and installed XP SP2. Everything working OK except that the USB ports all seem to be working at USB 1.0 speeds despite reporting back as an 'Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller'.
can anybody shed any light on this
thanks
Dave

Most new laptops have reverted to offering the choice of Vista or XP.
I would buy the system that you want to begin with.
Changing the Operating System yourself is not a good idea not to mention a waste of money.

Thanks for the reply and the advice
I have xp sp 2 with a legitimate licence for my laptop so there is no extra cost there, and the majority of my dj'ing software is not vista compatible...yet updates due soon.
finding an xp laptop in the uk is getting harder and limits my choices

Dave

You can install XP as a second operating system.
Removing Vista would be a bad idea as you mentioned if the computer is not XP optional then the drivers will be for Vista.
Removing Vista would also void all warranties most likely.
You can add XP then repair the Boot Sector and have both on the laptop as seen here:
