I had Norton Internet Security preinstalled in my computer. Today I uninstalled to replace it with Kaspresky 7. I simultaneously uninstalled Norton. Both the actions involved a request to restart my machine. I did so. upon restarting my internet stopped working and has not been working ever since.
I must mention here that I use a university wireless internet network which works through proxy. I tried setting and resetting my proxy in all my internet applications (mozilla, Iexplorer, gtalk etc.). Nothing worked.
upon repeated diagnostics of the internet windows was finally able to find out what was going wrong...
the message I got told me I had a remote firewall which was blocking the network. the name of this firewall (process) was "symnetdrv". I looked for this in my computer and found a symantec folder "program data" which has quite a no. of subfolders (even after complete uninstall!!!??????). I deleted the file named "symnetdrv.rul" and ".bak" along with some other "rul" and "bak" files in the same subfolder.... No avail!! Internet is still not working... Please help me out... I have not had the balls to delete the entire folder....

I downloaded the file and ran it on my computer...
The internet is still not working. I re-ran it and subsequently restarted my computer... the internet still is not working... I ran the diagnostic on the wireless icon and it tells me that windows could could not be connected due:

What should i do now?

Sorry. that was my bad. I forgot to enter the proxy settings in my internet based applications. However I am having another problem with the internet.
I usually use the Gtalk phone to talk to people abroad (one person in particular). This hasn't worked after the symantec fiasco (with referrence to that one person). I tried calling people who were in the next room (I live in a hostel) and it worked perfectly well. I had set the proxy settings to automatically detect before this episode and it was working fine. I, to remove all possible doubt, configured the proxy for gtalk manually. It is still not working when I make that particular call. The internet speed (transfer rate) seems to be absolutely fine (in relative terms of course).
The problem has nothing to do with the other end (my girlfriend has a personal broadband connection which is rendering service to all other calls she makes from gtalk).
