Help with Formatting and reinstalling please!!
Hey guys,
Well a friend has asked me to get rid of Vista off his laptop and install XP.
The way i'd go about it would be to somehow format the drive with Vista on it, and then get the XP disc, and work it like that?
I know a fair bit, but i wanted to ask the experts on here really, cos you guys know far more than me!
So, chaps - what IS the best way to do this???
Thanks in advance,
Flightidle

The first thing to consider is; Was the laptop (and the associated hardware contained therein) designed for Vista only? Certain hardware items won't have XP drivers available. NIC's, DVD's, even motherboards etc.
You should visit the laptop manufacturers website and see if XP drivers are available for all of the particular hardware involved. Drivers are O/S dependant. They are written for a specific O/S. ie; Drivers for XP (just because they're newer) won't work on the older Windows 98SE.

Thanks for your reply, Dan...
I must admit, that's thrown me a bit - it's a new laptop but not exactly an expensive one which was never designed to run XP on it.
So not sure....

"...which was never designed to run XP on it...."
That should tell you something about the prospective outcome.
If you have the restore/retail etc Vista DVD(s) (media) you can give it a try. However, if the machine was purchased as a VISTA architecture machine.......
