    Vista driver

    Dear Dal,

I have a toshiba satellite tecra laptop which is 3 - 4 years old. A new hardrive was installed and so I had a fresh install of windows vista home premium done by a computer shop. They informed me that the computer has no sound because Toshiba do not have an audio driver?

I previously had sound when running windows XP. If I need this driver then would someone please explain where I get it from and how to install it, or alternatively what I can do to rectify the problem?

    With thanks in advance,

    Terry

You probably won't find Vista drivers for a 3 - 4 year old laptop.

Vista should not have been installed on it. Was that your choice?

The computer shop should have known better.

I'd suggest going back to XP and also getting this shop to do it.

Installing a dysfunctional OS is very unprofessional.

On the other hand you can try to ID your chipset and search for Vista drivers but if Toshiba does not have them you probably will not find any. What is the exact satellite model number of the laptop?

    Dear Jephree,

    I have a Toshiba Tecra S2.

I cannot believe i have encountered this problem!

Thanks so much for your assistance and I hope you may be able to help because I'm sure the computer shop will probably not.

    Best regards,

    Terry

This is the audio driver for your laptop but it is for 2000/XP:

There are no Vista drivers for that laptop.

    This is the actual device:
    Sound
    • Realtek ALC250 Software Sound > I can not find a Vista driver via a quick search but I will keep looking. Again I'd suggest going back to XP.

try this i had to do this on a friends laptop with the same problem it might work or it might not.

First make sure that the sound is not disabled in the BIOS

    1. Uninstall the drivers for the Realtek AC97 that are installed now and reboot.

    2. Once logged in, Windows Vista will recognize that their are no drivers installed for your AC97 sound device. You will be prompted to search online at the Windows Update website. Use that option. You must authenticate.

    3. Once the drivers are installed reboot.

    4. Before you open any sound application, go to the speaker icon in the lower right corner and configure the sound drivers for your speakers using the wizard. Test the sound for each speaker here too.

    Dear all,

Thanks for trying to resolve my problem. I've decided to purchase a new copy of XP and have it reinstalled by a different computer tech. That will fix things.

    Best regards,

    Terry

    Dear all,

Now I find out my laptop is for the scrap heap. So, I'm going to buy a new one. I am looking at buying a Toshiba Satellite A200/S01 (it may also be known as a psas6a-06s01N I think).

Will this give me good performance running Vista?

    Thanks in advance,

    Terry
