"not responding"
I've got a 9 mo old HP presario, with a Pentium 4 3.0GHz, running Vista home basic. I didn't want Vista but it was standard from Best Buy. I've had nothing but problems. At this point the CD/DVD drive won't read so I just replaced it. I'm constantly getting "not responding" messages on IE, now I'm getting the same thing on Media Player. Every couple of weeks it won't start and goes thru a system recovery. It seems like it starts to have problems everytime it does an automatic windows update. I've posted a hijack this log and it checks ok. I've run a registry cleaner which doesn't seem to help. At this point I'm about ready to shell out the money for XP. Any suggestions?

I would return it to Best Buy as it will still be under warranty

HP tried to tell me it wasn't under warranty so I talked to the "geek squad" and they sent it back to HP for me. I just got it back with a new DVD RW drive and a new hard drive. In trying to recover the OS it kept hanging up in the middle. HP did send me new recovery CD's. I'm in the process now of running them.

Glad you have got it sorted
