more help with wireless
I have managed to make my wirless connection secure now thanks. My other problem is that my wireless only works when it wants to. I am close to the 100% signal and no appliances are on to cause any interference. It just won't always work. I first turn on the comp and let it boot up and then turn on the wireless router and wait it wil then tell me that the internet is connected. To get the wirless I have to manually connect to it. It just dosen't always work. I am using the ethernet cable at the moment and wonder if you can help. Should I not conect with the cable when starting it all up? I have also tried resetting the router??? thanks for any help.

when you turn your machine on does it look for wireless networks?
-
No it dosen't. I can get it sometimes I just don' t understand it. If I reset the router I can get it to work. This may be a silly question but I managed to get it to work last night and then I shut down the computer and left the wireless router on. When I turned the computer on again this evening I can't get it to work anyhow. Am I not meant to turn the computer off? What about the wireless router- should I leave it on all the time. Only we are having building works done and they have to keep turning the electric off??? Why does it sometimes work when I reset it?? So confused.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I always turn my router off every night.
is the router a router/modem combined?
when you are almost 100% signal and can't connect does it give a reason?
what security are you usuing?
-
It says 100% sigal to wireless but when I take the ethernet cable out the connection is lost and I can no longer connect. It gives no reason just says internet connection terminated. I am using wep 64 bit security. it is a router / modem combined. It did work for a whole evening but I can't get it to work now.

is your firewall blocking the wireless signal?
-
My windows firewall is turned off but I do have a firewall with Norton Antivirus so I will double check that.

This thread is old now and clairem has several threads on the same subject. Could a Moderator please tidy this up? Maybe locking the older threads would help. Thank you
