    White Screen Of Death

    Hi

I have a Fujitsu AMILO Laptop on Vista Home Premium

Most recently i switched on my laptop and i found that after a while of doing different tasks my screen crashes to a white screen and i cannot so anything at all except manually turn it off.

The strange this is when i do this the computer doesn't seem to register it as a crash and just restarts as usual with no send error report or scan on bootup

    Please help

I don't think your laptop - that is, the "computer", is crashing. Rather, I think your monitor is - this explains why you don't have a crash registered in any of the logs.

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop and see if it does it there too. If it does, that probably clears the laptop monitor, but it could still be a problem with the laptop's graphics. If you do get a white screen, but the external monitor still shows a proper display, then you know your laptop monitor, most likely the inverters, are going, going, almost gone.

I recommend you note the keystrokes needed to reboot the system gracefully - Usually you press the Windows Key > Up Arrow > Enter > Enter

You might have to throw in a couple extra "Enter" strokes if there might be a prompt to save what you are doing.

They can be repaired but yes, if the monitor graphics system is bad, then I would think it should be under at least a 1-year warranty. And certainly, if it is still under warranty, you should deal with the maker's tech support.

Intermittent problems typically (but not always) point to hardware and are the hardest type problem to troubleshoot. This can be heat related or a loose connection somewhere. Hard to tell. I recommend you attach an external monitor and see if it happens there too.
