    Question desktop.ini on my desktop (sorta greyed out) can I delete?

    I have a few gearlike laying over a white page sorta looking icons that say "desktop.ini " on my desktop here not even sure where they are from even.

    They look sorta greyed outish vs colorful like most icons. They dont have the normal shortcut looking arrow in the corners, but again I have no idea how they got there or what they are for.

    When I click them they say

    [.ShellClassInfo]
    LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell 32.dll,-21769
    IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-183
    [LocalizedFileNames]
    Windows Media Player.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\unregmp2.exe,-4

    &

    [.ShellClassInfo]
    LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell 32.dll,-21799

    Sorry if this is more of a general question vs vista, but I am new to vista and had never seen these types of things in the past and now I am seeing them in my vista premium pc here, so figured I would ask here what to do with them (delete, keep etc?) Are these supposed to be "hidden" vs visable (I do recall checking a box to show hidden files during some setup stuff), maybe i should uncheck that box?

    See if you can delete them.

    They will be recreated wherever they are needed.

    The icon should not be on the desktop but you will find it within folders.

    Thanks for the replies, wasnt sure if it was something i should try to delete or not, will find that setting and turn hidden files off and if it bugs me sounds like it wont be too big a deal to delete them if they will be recreated if and when they are needed etc.

    The hidden files should not really affect such an issue.

    Even with all files unhidden you should not see this on the desktop.

    In general it would be a program that installed or uninstalled incorrectly.

    WMP was mentioned in the one instance.

    Anyway the system creates these files when and where it needs them.
