Vista Windows Mail
I took delivery of my new Dell system with Vista on Wednesday and using a Belkin cable managed to transfer all my information and folders smoothly. My regularly used programmes have all installed without any problems.
The big problem is the emails which are the lifeblood of my business. Windows Mail is annoying in the way it displays my folders but I can live with that but the big problem is that is is continually not sending or receiving email. The folowing error message comes up:
An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0148
This means nothing to me. Sometimes if I close Windows Mail it will then work (although annoyingly as I have a huge number of stored emails McAfee scans them all each time I re-open). This morning it won't work at all so I will re-boot in a minute to see if I can at least get some emails in. This problem has been on-going since Thursday.
Having searched for the error message on Google I can see I am not the only one to have this problem.
Is there a solution or should I download Thunderbird and use that as my email programme? Does Thunderbird work well and will it work on Vista? All I want is a quiet life!

As I haven't received a reply do I take it there is no Vista expertise on DAL and I should look elsewhere for help? This problem is driving me mad so I need to find an answer. Any suggestions as to where I should look?
I see from a more recent post tat someone else is also having problems as they have downloaded Thunderbird but now they are having problems with that

Hi David,
Yes it's usually likely if someone has not replied that they cannot offer any useful assistance at the moment. Vista is new as you know and so it does take a while for even the techy members to get used to all the newfeatures and quirks with it!
First things first can you stop Mcafee scanning all your emails and then retry? There will be a setting in Mcafee to do this.
