vista crashing HELP
Have sorted a lot of problems in vista week after week since april but this problem l need help. At startup my graphic drivers crash and windows gets the picture back. But have now put vista to sleep each night to save the crashing and the long start up as its longer than dial up was so putting to sleep is stopping this happen but is it ok too do it all the time.
Also can anyone tell me what driver to download at Nvida as there just numbers, have had updates but its still the same.

I have had a simlar problem with Nvidia drivers, display going black, then a message coming up saying that the driver had failed and had been recovered.
I have found that rolling back to an earlier driver has stopped this happening
What graphics card do you have?

You know l havn't a clue what number l have, is there a way on vista l can find out as ts not on uninstall, used computers 8 years but things like drivers on before vista wasn't needed so much but there the same as yours and says exactly the same as you typed and it would be great for it to stop. Microsoft sent a driver update last and it didn't help and the one before it was the same when l updated the pc as its a new one so don't know how far to go. PC is packardbell,

if you click start and type in "dxdiag" ( without the speech marks) in the search box, then look under the display tab it will tell you what graphics card you have and which version of the driver you have installed.
for example on my laptop it says
DEVICE
Name: Nvidia GeForce Go 7200
Approx total memory : 301mb
display mode : 1280 x 800 (32bit) (60hz)
DRIVER
main driver : NVD3dum.dll
Version:7.5.00109759 (English)
I have since stopped downloading any nvidia updates through windows update as i have found they all seem produce the same problem!

i have set Vista to download updates but notify me before installing, and just untick the nvidia one.
If it was more stable with your last driver, try reverting back to that by clicking start, right clicking "computer" and selecting properties.
On the left hand side on the blue bar it says "device manager" if you click on that and then the plus next to display adaptor it will list your graphics card, right click that and go to properties once again. Then finally on the driver tab click " roll back driver"
Mine still seems to crash once in a blue moon, and having done some Internet searching for a resolve myself, the best advice that seems to be about is using an older driver or a beta driver.
Not sure if anyone else here can be any more help to you. I'm using a driver dated January 2007 which after trying a few different ones seems to be the most stable!
Am hunting round for the beta driver to see if that helps mine, if it does ill post you a link!

Thank you so much for doing this as l have been trying for weeks, am just going to get tea then will roll it back. There is loads on furums that have the same problem, last week l was sick of vista and looked for xp online but there was none as they had been updated like mine was, l found out after a digging a bit deeper. With xp l left it for a year before l downloaded it but this time broke the rule and bought one.
Another thing you can't do is click on a contact email on a website, have to copy it out and send from my email account and on some sites were they have a left side list the top line drops down and they look as if they have slipped down and a few sites black text goes over other text but l just don't bother with this,
