Users can't save or otherwise create files
I’ve managed to avoid using Vista thus far.
However, several online associates of mine have been reporting strange problems with an application of mine (written in MS Visual Studio) that has worked with every Windows release from 95 on up. Naturally, I’d like top have answers for them.
Specifically, they have problems creating new files. My application saves files with odd extensions that I made up for the specific purpose.
I’m guessing that the Vista o/s, in the sacred name of “security,” doesn’t trust files of types other than the respectable .DOC, .TXT, .XLS, .BMP and so on, probably fearing that they might be (shudder) *executable*, and so restricts creation of these suspect types
to “Administrators.”
(Another friend says that WordPerfect won’t let him save new files. I’m guessing that Vista accommodates .DOC filers for the sake of MS Word, but shuns whatever extension it is that WP happens to use.)
Is there some kind of “permissible file types” list that has to be edited? Or do users of my programs have to log in with some higher authority.
I’d appreciate any clues.

So . . . is it just that nobody knows how to solve this problem, or that nobody else has encountered it?

Here is one Google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...sta+file+types
Or:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...=1&sa=N&tab=wg
I would think that in order to make changes one would have to be an Administrator.
Just guessing though.

I find it hard to believe that one has to be an administrator to save files in a word processor, but then again, nothing surprises me lately! I'll read those items. Thanks.
