Red face insufficent space for backup

I am running vista home basics & I can't backup my files as there's not enough storage space on recovery and I downloaded a trial game and since then my 3 of my icons on my desktop have been replaced with black squares(computer, control panel & bin) I have restarted my comp, run virus checks and refreshed my desktop with no success. These icons work as normal when clicked on. I thought maybe using system restore might fix this but cannot as I have insufficient space. Could somebody pleeease help.

Is this a new computer with Vista OEM or did you install Vista?

If the former what is the make and model of the computer?

The "insufficient space" error in Vista is widely reported and very often linked to the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) type of install.

    Hi Jephree,
Thanks for the reply, it's a new HP a6020a with Vista OEM, I used to run windows 98 on my old comp so this is all a little dawnting to me, maybe I should contact the store were I bought it from and see if their tech fellow can help?

I am not getting direct hits from HP regarding a6020a

    http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

Is that a Pavilion; Presario: etc. ... ?

I have seen this issue a few times and will just post the most recent thread I have been reading:

I will post back further finds as I find them.
