slow boot when usb devices hooked up
I just picked up an hp m8120n yesterday. Everything went well setting up existing peripherals and software. Surisingly fast and responsive.
Today tho the system takes a very long time to boot. Have narrowed it down to my usb devices. Belkin usb 2.0 7 port hub, Maxtor external mybook, printer, scanner. Whenever either one of these devices are connected the boot time is horendous, with or without the hub.
I had an hp M1090n which had a similar problem and I fixed it by installing an update from microsoft that reportedly fixed devices from disappearing from external usb hubs.
Does anyone have further information regarding this issue. TIA

This is an uneducated guess that may have absolutely nothing to do with it but the first thing that came to mind is that your boot proccess is analysing the USB device to see if it contains bootable data..
This is caused by your BIOS making it check all USB devices for bootable data THEN boot from your HDD ...
It varies from computer to computer, but if you tap F2 or DEL or something during bootup and your (blue) BIOS screen should appear.
Somewhere there should be your 'boot order' or something similar, but as I said before, it varies enormously from computer to computer so if you need more specific information about this, feel free post again with the most recent info =]

I have since determined it wasn't "all" usb devices. But rather my WD My Book Essentials 250g external usb drive. Also it seems my Sandisk cruizer micro drive exhibit the same phenomenon. Is anyone else finding this. TIA
Of course the wd people don't respond to my queries

If you go into your bios you can disable the USB devices from attempting to boot.
