My laptop was preinstalled with vista and came with 2 partitions. They are both 44.5GB each and I wanted to merge them together and just make one large one without losing all of my data.
Also tried the recovery disk and all it does is the same thing like when it was preinstalled it made 2 partitions and there was no way to change it.
What software would I need or what do I need to do to make this possible?
Why do you want to do this?
Although possible it is also risky. Back up any important data.
With GParted you can delete the second partition then resize C: to fill the Unallocated space.
GParted Guide
Well I just tried it and it did not work it had errors and corrupted the Hard Drive. Is there anyway to merge them together? I want to merge them together because I installed alot of programs and when the C: partition is full I cant install any more.
From within Windows there is no way to do this.
From the fact that the computer was setup this way I'd suggest leaving it alone. It probably has Safe Guards in place to at least resist changes.
Whereas program files will need to be on C: you can move all your data to F: (or the 2nd partition).
If GParted failed I would doubt that any other software would work but you can try if you want. Most other softwares will cost:

I did this on XP using Partition Magic, worked a treat and did not lose any data.
I can see this would be a problem.![]()
Doesn't Vista have it's own partion resizing option?
