partitioning new laptop with recovery
i finally got a hand on a new laptop! its pretty cool but i'm wanting to re-partition the harddrive!
spec brief:
HP DV6000 (http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.sto...ct/View/XC3980)
Windows Vista Home Premium
120GB HD
this laptop unfortunately doesn't come with the OS CD!
the hard-disk has two partitions, 106GB for the OS and 7GB Recovery...
can anyone give me directions on how to do this?

How do you want to partition and why?
You cannot in Windows but GParted will work outside of Windows.

i just want to partition the main drive (C
so i can install linux on partition2, will be splitting it into 70GB/36GB! i have no intention of touching the recovery partition eventhough i got recovery disk (due to warranty)...
can vista do this from within? or do i have to do it from outside? cheers

Outside. You need a partitioning program. GParted is free and easy in my opinion.
You will need to resize C: then create a new partition in the blank space and format to the Linux file system or let Linux do this upon installation.
Otherwise you can start shopping with a list such as this:
