i recently installed vista on my computer but was having problems so i built a more up to date system including a new harddrive because my old one is playing up, now when i try to register i get told my product key is already in use, (which it is in my old drive) do i really have to buy a product key just because my harddrive stopped working, or is there a way to transfer the license to my new computer. please help

The Vista EULA allows only ONE upgrade of hardware. This is the one main reason I will not purchase it. In XP, for example, hardware upgrades were not restricted as long as only one computer was running the one key.

That being said you probably need to phone up Microsoft and that should take care of it.
