Angry Win 7 Calendar Gadget shows blank orange square

Hi. Three days ago the Calendar gadget that comes pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Edition re-appeared as a blank ornage square following a restart. I'd just removed McAfee's Anti-Virus Plus and Malwarebytes, and intalled Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 instead.
I've followed the instructions on the Microsoft website purporting to solve the problem: in my case they don't! I've also tried several other solutions I found on the Web, also to no avail. I've even installed a working copy of the gadget from another computer running the same version of Win 7. At least it was working when I copied it, but when I added it to the desktop on my machine it came up orange and blank!!

I also performed a system restore pre-dating the installation of Bitdefender, which did not resolve the problem either.

Can any one please help me resolve this problem? I'm at my wits' end.

Thanks very much. This is one of the solutions I've already tried, without success.

Did you also try the 'fix it' link in the last posted link?

Have you seen the rather lengthy discussion here, including:

My microsoft calendar gadget is displaying a blank page rather than - Microsoft Answers

    For 64-bit systems, run:

    %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\vbscript.dll
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, I tried the 'fix it' link you gave me, but nothing worked. I've also tried restoring all the gadgets and got this reply: 'There are no Windows or administrator gadgets to restore.'
On another forum I came across the suggestion that McAfee could be the cause of the problem. When it is uninstalled (which I did the other day) it omits to retrun a Registry Key to its proper value. The post says the default Key should be:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32]
    @=”C:\\Windows\\system32\\vbscript.dll”
    “ThreadingModel”=”Both”
I don't have this or any similar Key in my Registry so am very wary about accepting this advice.
Many thanks for you continurd support.

There is no available collaboration for the link you provided:

    "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32"

Thank you very much for all your help and advice. Sadly nothing you have suggested or that I've been able to find myself has worked. The brain is over-heating so I'm going to give this a rest for a while.
