Unhappy Picture problem since move to Win 7 (no thumbnails)

    Hi Folks,
Please can anybody help with this problem.
My wife has just updated her laptop to Win 7 from XP and now has a problem.
I'm sure it's straightforward, that's why I'm asking here rather than spend time looking for it as I'm still on XP and not so familiar with Win 7.
On XP when she opened a folder full of photos she would see a thumbnail of each photo and she could adjust the "view" to be thumbnails, tiles, list etc.
Now she's on Win 7 all she sees is the photo icons (e.g. from Picassa) and not the thumbnails, and the "Change view" menu no longer has "thumbnails" as a choice.
What am I doing wrong, or where is it?
    Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, they should be viewed for image files by default - as long as the default picture viewer was NOT changed from Windows Photo Viewer.

If Windows Photo Viewer is still the default viewer, then from within the folder, click Tools > Folder Options > View and make sure "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is unchecked.

    Hi Digerati,
    Thanks for the info.
It was the second point "always show icons...." that was checked.
My wife says she hasn't altered anything, because she wouldn't know how to, but it seems a very strange default.
Anyway, it's fixed now, thanks again, might even get me a brownie point!!

    I like mine with pecans!

Glad that worked and thanks for the followup. Note the default is unchecked, so it does seem odd it was checked. Having it display the thumbnails can slow performance so it could have been checked to speed things up a bit.
