I downloaded an online comic, it was X Men, it wasn't strictly legal, I was drunk, it seems to have killed my laptop, no function when I start it beyond the blue screen, I'm on same laptop now, Sony Vaio, VPCEB4JOE seems to have an instant net button, unable to save files or do anything on the laptop though.



The @ button and " have swapped meanings too, to get one I have to use the other, is there anything I can do beyond not being a twit and buying a new hard drive please?



Tried downloading Norton again but it only lets me save to a USB key.





I should mention the blue screen I'm getting isn't a page crash screen, it's just the windows load up screen, it just freezes on it and says it's loading but doesn't.



Any advice most appreciated, my laptop isn't even 6 months old. 8(



I've tried restarting and holding F8 and not one of the options on that screen is working, they all just go to a blue screen, I'm pretty sure I've done something fatal but any help would be appreciated, thanks.

That seems to be a contradictory statement.

You might try to do a system restore back to before this happened. I would boot into Safe Mode to do that.

Have you scanned for malware?

Hi, I know it seems odd, on the Vaio there is a button marked web, if I hit that I can get online in a dramatically reduced way, I can't save anything, asides to USB and it wont let me access the laptop memory or files.

I have tried the other route to system restore by pressing the assist button but it just says it is loading Vaio system restore software then doesn't do anything, it just sits on the screen not loading.

I've tried F2 and set the restore from there and it also starts, says it's loading files then just goes to the blue screen, not the fail screen but the load screen, but again it just freezes and doesn't load.

I'm online using something called a splashtop browser if that clears it up.

Right, I understand, problem is I can't get access to the start menu, there isn't an option for it on the splashtop browser. Any other way to system restore windows please? perhaps online?

There is a system restore setting in the splashtop menu but when I try it it just resets the splashtop browser and not the whole laptop.

Did the computer come with any installation or recovery disks? If not, did you make any recovery disks? That may be your only option, short of sending it back for warranty support.

Sadly it didn't come with recovery disks, it advised me to make some but I didn't, 8( I guess it's back to the shop tomorrow, thanks for trying to help Digerati.

Sorry. Keep us posted. Note, it is under warranty since it is less than 6 months old. I would call them up and see if they can help - maybe they can send you to a site where you can download some recovery disks.
