    BSOD BAD_POOL_HEADER - Suspect RAM

    Hello all,
    First off my Specs.
    OS: Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
    RAM: 8GB Corsair DDR3 RAM
    HDD: 3x Seagate 500GB SATAII
    GPU: ATI Radeon 5770
    MOBO: MSI 890FXA-GD70
I recently upgraded my RAM (I no longer have the old RAM) and shortly after that I started receiving BSOD. First it was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, then BAD_POOL_HEADER, then PAGE_FAULT_IN_NOPAGED_AREA and then SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. So far I've only had them once except the pool header, I've had that 5 times now and its pretty much every time I restart or shutdown the PC. I've ran registry scanner, scanned for virus' malware ect and I've done a Memory Test but found no errors. I'm unsure how to check the dump log or what to look for in it. So any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Dan

Suggest you try one stick of RAM at a time as were the solutions here:

Blue screen, BAD_POOL_HEADER - Microsoft Answers

edit: i believe the cause to be one of my ram sticks. I tryed booting the computer using each stick individually and it wouldnt boot with one of them, but the other ran fine

Thanks VopThis, I'll give it a go as see what the out come is, strangely enough it hasn't done it the last few shut downs.

    Hey.
I've tried booting the computer using just one of the sticks of RAM and both boot, shut down and restart the PC fine. I'm using them in the first RAM bank, would it be worth testing to see if there is a fault in bank 2?
    Thanks,
    Dan

One more thing I used that BlueScreenView that was recommended on one of those links you provided VopThis and I'm not too sure how to interpret it so I just attached the file to see if you could make sense of it.
    Thanks again,

You shouldn't be seeing memory related errors just after buying ram so I'd contact the manufacturer for an rma.

Were you having reliability issues with your previous RAM [see related/adjacent line #'s below] - dumps go to Aug 18? If so, you may be having hardware issues such as a defective motherboard (bank 2?). Unfortunately, many reported driver issues are often RAM compatibility issues:

Otherwise, you might want to check out:
    The Corsair Memory Configurator

    Learn & Explore

I did not find your motherboard listed (potentially problemsome). This fails to give definitive guidance on whether a compatibility issue may be present. For alternate RAM, it would be best to seek that vendor's configurator where present.

As of April 15/11 another user reported the same actual problem (only one module at a time works) with Corsair RAM and same AMD MB:

The Corsair Support Forums - View Single Post - Msi 890fx gd70

No, what I was saying is it will only pass and function with a single module in the system.

    1 - 2 GIG 1333 Module

If I try to add more than 1 module W7 BSOD's.

I have scratched the whole project.

**** just isn't compatible. I have been on the phone with AMD and MSI all day. They say that everything has to be perfectly compatible to run W7 right.

Hey all, August the 18th was the day I installed the new RAM, and before then I hadn't had one problem.
I bought the RAM from a distributor (pccasegear.com.au). I've dealt with them in the past with RMA's and they have been really good so I'll email them and see what happens.
One thing though, I assume that a clean install on Win7 wouldn't fix the problem if my MOBO is incompatible with the RAM?
Thank you both for your input.

So I've contacted pccasegear and have applied for an RMA, weather or not I'll get a refund as it does seem to be my fault if its a compatibility issue. On another note, I tried the RAM in the second bank and got a BSOD but there was no code with it, just stating that my computer encountered an error and shut down to protect it self etc. And I just got a BSOD using one Stick in bank one, it was APC_INDEX_MISMATCH, I didn't get the code that was with it. Either way I'll send the RAM back and see what happens...I'll just try and have to live with out my computer for a while.
