I am running a Windows 7 Professional 64bit operating system. I have a network icon showing up which I have no knowledge what it is or how it got there. The name of the unknown network is PVS-1AAOC912814. It requires a password to open. So, I have no way to access the network. How do I delete the network?
Thanks for any help.
Sadly, you told us absolutely nothing about your computer (except Win7 64-bit), your network connections, your computer's network interfaces, or where this network icon is showing up.If it is showing up on the wireless side, it may just be your neighbor's wireless network.
I have a home network with three computers making up the network. One of the computers is running 98SE, one is running XP pro and the other computer is running Windows 7 pro. The icon for the unknown network is showing up only on the computer running Windows 7 pro. It does not show up on the other two computers. The place that the icon is showing up is when I use windows explorer and click on "my network". All of the computers are connected to the router by cat 5 cable. I am using a wireless router that is being used to connect the computers. I had a laptop that was connecting to the network thru the wireless router but it died and if anyone is using the wireless it would have to be a neighbor. Is it possible that the wireless router is being shown as a network?
Thanks for the help.
When you right click on this network and select properties, what does it say? My guess at this point is your system is seeing both your Ethernet and your wireless networks - and yes, they are two networks.
Thanks Digerati for the reply.
I am out of town for a couple of weeks visiting my grandson. I will let you know what I get when I click on properties when I get back.
Sounds like a plan.
Before I left town I turned the power to the wireless router off.
When I got back into town, after being out of town for several days, I turned the wireless router on and checked my Network Connections. The unknown network had disappeared. Could this unknown network have been a freeloading neighbor?
In any case it no longer shows up.
Thanks for the help.
You are the one that detected another network. That does not suggest in anyway someone is using your network. If you had seen an unknown device on your network, then I would be looking at freeloaders.Could this unknown network have been a freeloading neighbor?
I am afraid that I have used the wrong terminology in describing my situation.
When I clicked on "my network" an unknown network connection was showing up.
After leaving the wireless router off for a period of time, the unknown connection has disappeared.
I should have said that I had an connection on "my network" that I did not recognize.
Sorry about the confusion.
No problem. Thanks for clarifying.
I suspect it was the wireless network showing. If you are not using wireless anymore, go into your router's menu and disable it, then you don't have to worry about nosy neighbors, or badguys driving down the street finding yours. Just don't forget you disabled it if try to connect a wireless device in the future.
