I have a had a problem for a while now where my computer crashes at random times with a blue screen saying Kernel Data In Page Error (that may not be 100% correct the blue screen dissapears very quick and as a result i have not got any more info then that. But if it is necessary i will find a way of recording it the next time.) Any help would be greatly appreciated, i do not know much about computers at all and have not been able to do anything, i am also short on money and if possible would like to steer clear of shops that will charge me a lot.

Such an error message often appears to be driver related. Were drivers updated recently or do you ever check for such (perhaps needed) updates?
The following sample search may help to focus in on 'resolved' commonly found issues from a specific vendor, if that applies. Simply change vendor name where appropriate or remove:

I know very little about computers, but the only updating i do is from the windows update... Does that update everything? I have tried some google searches but to be honest i have trouble understanding a lot of what is said, i kind of need to be spoon fed info if you know what i mean? Im trying to avoid shops because as i said i simply don't have the money to fix it... If i backed up files, and restored factory settings could that work? Then reintroduce things i need? Sorry for being so slow when it comes to computers haha i appreciate the help.
I should also mention a friend told me to run an "error check" on the hard drive by right clicking the hard drive and selecting the option in properties, it scheduled it for the next time i turned the laptop on. About 70% of the way in it froze completely, i left it for hours hoping it would work but it didn't so i was forced to turn it off in mid check... this caused more problems and the computer had to restore itself... could be the hard drive failing?(i honestly hope not because no money hahaha)

Sometimes but not always (often optional updates that are video or audio related).but the only updating i do is from the windows update... Does that update everything?
What brand of PC (and model) do you have, if that applies? There could be a pattern of known problems that could be a good SIMPLE starting point, here:

Otherwise and in addition, there should be a minidump error log generated that could be posted:
How to read the small memory dump files that Windows creates for debugging
(with details on expected default location)
As far as i know everything is up to date...
It is a HP G62
I dowloaded a programme here Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer , it said there were no dump files?
I then tried searching for .dmp files in computer, which made windows explorer crash and restart.
I use microsoft security essentials as my anti virus and nothing is coming up.
I viewed event logs for things marked "critical" and with a red X and all seem to say - Provider

Running a long scan when there are unknown crash issues that could occur at any point - this allows no clear basis to conclude such a possibility, even if actually true.could be the hard drive failing?
Not much to go on from info available. You could try reverting back to a previous 'system restore' before your issues started (GOTO: Start>'Search programs and files' BOX>system restore).
Otherwise, try reading some of the first page search results to get some sense of common known patterns/causes for your error message:
