    Go to Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
Performance (TAB) > Resource Monitor (BUTTON).

In Resource Monitor click Memory (TAB):
Expand 'Physical Memory’ BAR down arrow.

    Installed Memory (to account for / 1GB = 1024MB) =
    • MB in Use (Green) +
    • MB Available [Blue(s)] : (Standby + Free) +
    • _
    • MB Hardware Reserved (Grey) +
    • MB Modified (Orange)

It's unlikely you will use anywhere near 8GB of ram unless you are doing a lot of memory intensive processing, like video rendering, multiple games, etc.

The following gadget can be used to activitely monitor the amount of free memory (and/or percent RAM in use) on your PC:

Windows Gadgets - All CPU Meter Version 3.7

NOTE: Most computers do not consistently use more than 2GB of memory - so 3-4GB RAM is often more than enough for most. I notice that you are a musician so 8GB may well be warranted.

You listed that in your user profile.

I am not sure that is particularly possible at any suitably productive level. There may be development tools that help to assist in the conversion of 32 bit APPLICATION code to 64 bit code - but the process will not be particularly without barriers, cost, steep learning curve, and significant additional effort, regardless.

It might be helpful to indicate what you were hoping to achieve.
