I am new to this board, just want to say hello, I Fats.
This question may have been posted already. Here goes.

First off I have a windows 7 64 bit os. I am having problems when I run windows update.
I click the update that i want and it bombs out during instalation. I get an error code 80070017.
I am having troubles with my display adaptors. I can't get video. The update should fix the problem with
the chipset for the drivers.

Any help would be great.

Things I tried
Removed temp files.
ran a chkdsk.

None of that worked..

Ok, I found the problem to that rather peculiar error code. Windows 7 was not activated. Therefore after a month, no updates are allowed

I activated the win 7. I am still having the same trouble. Should i try to remove the drivers
and try to reinstall?

Tried to remove and install drivers. Won't let me install new drivers.

Does the 'View Update History' show that the update failed? In that case it may be necessary to remove the problem update before attempting a reinstall. Or you may first want to do the procedure listed further below.

Uninstall Update (if relelvant):
Enter 'View installed updates' in the START search box to find the erroneous install item. Highlight the item in question and click 'uninstall'. Probably best to reboot after that.

• Uninstall > Save to text file (install) – bottom right corner of app window
• Startup > Save to text file (startup)

Locate and open each saved file in the ‘Documents’ FOLDER:

• Copy and paste the contents of each file into your next post (2 files).

Did the 'View Update History' show an installation failure?

All your install items seem to be very recent - May 20 forward. Did you do a recent clean install - and did it appear to go well.


Who is the manufacturer of your computer - is it a PC or laptop - any model #? Is it still under warranty?

What is your video adapter card model? CCleaner will list any detected video adapter in its header (line 3). Did you attempt to download any model specific driver directly from the vendor's site or available DVD?
