I am the administrator and only user, but I often get access denied and message saying "You are not an administrator ... elevate your status to administrator.
That's the user account control that MS started in Vista. It can be disabled however I personally would leave it and just live with it. It's a security feature.
That is exactly the response a rogue program would [likely] get if it tried to have its way with your system. By making you and such programs go through a sequence of challenge steps (some simple and some more elevated depending on implied risk for the action being attempted) this ensures your PC remains mostly issue free rather than a sitting duck as easy prey.but I often get access denied

Thanks, folks for your help. Let me be more specific. The 'Access Denied--You are not an Administrator' is unacceptable for me only when I try to Immunize in Spybot Search and Destroy. There I can find no way around it.
See the vendor's instructions for that very issue (applicable to other apps as well):
How can I get Administrator rights under Windows Vista or Windows 7?

How can I make a contribution? The link in your email -- http://www.d-a-l.com/donations.php -- does not work.
Hi, thanks for letting us know, that link is now fixed![]()
