ActiveX component is not even showing as installed (applicable to IE). Accordingly. your issues may have something to do with known potential Firefox 4.0 incompatibilities (creating installation failures) - see:

So I should just downgrade my FF to 3.6.16?

That or run your installs from IE requiring you to install the Adobe Flash ActiveX control.

Here is what I am running without any problems:

    Internet Explorer 8.0.7600.16385
Adobe Flash Player (Plugin) 10.3.181.14 (x86)
Adobe Flash Player (ActiveX) 10.3.181.14 (x86)
    Internet Explorer 8.0.7600.16385 (x86)
    Mozilla Firefox 3.6.17 (en-US) (x86)

I actually clicked "Windows Update" by mistake and saw that I had a few things to update so I did that, and now that I installed those updates along with IE9, the ActiveX prompt went away and I was able to install my webcam software (The one I gave the example of in the first post) without any problem. So I guess my problem is solved. Thanks a lot for the help anyway.

Only problem I have now is installing a recent version of AIM

I saw this guide but I'm not exactly sure how to do what they say to do in order to make the program work.

You can try your guide (deleting the filename listed) but a more recent link may be a better option. Google is your friend:

problem installing aim "windows 7" - Google Search

This might be a current issue in IE9?:

I cannot install Aim Messenger-why not?
I'm not sure about this version, but in the past, AIM has been very Internet Explorer-based.
