Warning 1909 - Could not create shortcut
I run Windows 7, IE8, AVG Free, all with latest updates. I have been having problems with my HP Photosmart C6280 which involved a Level 3 uninstall. This all went well with downloaded drivers from the HP web site but I get a Warning 1909 saying Could not create shortcut HP Solution Center.lnk. Verify that destinaton folder exists and that you can access it. Cannot find that folder and from Googling I understand it is a Windows problem not HP. The HP programs are all listed in the All Programs list but when I click on them the folders are empty. How do I restore the link please. I have uninstalled and re-installed 3 times making sure I follow the instructions. I have done it by disabling firewall and anti virus just in case but no change. I've also downloaded the drivers again in case the initial attempt was corrup but no change. Many thanks for any help

Do the level 3 uninstall again to make sure all is clean, then right click on the driver file you downloaded and select Run as Administrator. See if that resolves the problem.

Thanks for reply. I have done as suggested but still no luck, in fact "Essentials" is missing too so things go from bad to worse. The HP list still reports "empty" so things are not getting through. Any further ideas welcome

Try the .LNK fix from here: Default File Type Associations - Restore - Windows 7 Forums.
I read in several other posts where this fixed this problem.

Well I'm afraid it didn't work for me. I did a Level 3 uninstall again and downloaded the link following all the instructions. Re-installed the program and still no luck. Am I going to have to re-install Windows do you think?

Hurray, after a further 6 hours it is up and running - how, I am not too sure but Solution center is there and all is nearly well except for the fact that I cannot open the Printer Toolbox. This means I cannot check ink levels or clean cartridges etc. I've trwled the net and eventually found what I thought would help - It's C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtbx01.exe
To use it, you need to follow it with the friendly name of the printer
(from Settings/printers)
HPQTBX01 "HP OfficeJet 7300 series"
I found the hpqtbx01 part but I did not know what to do then - obviously I have to replacethe HP details with "HP Photosmart 6200 series" but where to put it or how to deal with it I know not. I did put enter it in a cmd window but I got an error message saying it couldn't find the driver name. Any suggestions please. There seems to be a lot of queries about the problem but few replies. Many thanks for your patience

Please provide the link you found that references this.
What happens if you start (double click on) C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtbx01.exe?
BTW: This problem is what the .lnk fix is supposed to take care of. Are you sure you did it right?
Download the .lnk fix which is Default_LNK_(Shortcut).zip.
Unzip it to get Default_LNK_(Shortcut).reg.
Double click on it and then click on Yes when you get the warning about adding info to the registry.
Reboot.
That should restore the correct handling of .exe files.

Hi
I had done as you said and had done it correctly. Re-done the lnk but still no toolbox. When I double click I get the following:
Cmd Line Usage:
hpqtbx01[.exe]printerfriendlyname[/silent][/runpluginname[/cmd argument]] I see the last 3 "square brackets" haven't got the bottom tail, not sure how to replicate them.
I have now discovered that Essentials is no longer in the driver download and if needed it can be obtained separately so we can discount that in the equation.

I'm afraid I'm stumped. Hopefully one of the other folks here has some ideas.
I'll keep looking to see if I can find any other possible fixes.
