    According to ProcessLibrary.com:
dciman32.dll is a module for the Display Control Interface (DCI) Manager. It is used to improve graphics performance as a result of direct video memory access.
dciman32.dll is a system process that is needed for your Windows system to work properly. It should not be removed.
It's located on the XP Install CD as \I386\DCIMAN32.DL_, a compressed file. See here for directions to expand the file from the CD to your hard drive:

How to expand Windows XP files from the installation disk

It may also be in C:\Windows\system32\dllcache. If so, you can copy it from there to C:\Windows\system32 which it where is runs from.

  4. Re: dciman32.dll missing

I closed a duplicate post in the Windows 7 forum. Are you indeed running Windows 7, or are you running XP?

If Windows 7, I (or another Moderator) will move this to the Windows 7 forum.

Sorry about that. You need to show hidden files and folders before you can see them.

Open Control Panel then Folder Options and click on the View tab.
Select "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" (click Yes when prompted)
    Click Apply and OK

  7. Re: dciman32.dll missing

That does make a difference. You need to run System File Checker (SFC) then.

Press the WinKey+r to open a Run box. The WinKey is the one next to the left Ctrl key.
Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

Be patient and let SFC complete, then shutdown and reboot and see if the problem still occurs or not.

If you want to see what SFC did, follow instructions here: How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program generates. This is for Vista but it's the same for Windows 7.

You can also extract individual files from the Win 7 DVD if you have one using 7-Zip. See this tutorial by Brink: Extract Files from Windows 7 Installation DVD
