Hi Guys,
I have just had a second ‘infection’ of ‘System Tools’ within a few weeks. It completely disables my computer. I eventually got round it by starting in Safe Mode and going back to a restore point. The first time I got it I was running Avast. The second time I was running Microsoft Security Essentials.
Aren’t these things meant to stop System Tools disabling my computer?
Yes, but not if you, the user, are letting the nasties in. The user is always the weakest link when it comes to security. Plus, it is quite possible you never really cleaned your system the first time around, and if all you did was use System Restore, then that would be my guess. SR does not remove or delete everything you downloaded and saved - it basically just restores previous settings and drivers. If you never thoroughly cleaned your system after the first infection, it is very probable it was still there, laying in wait to be retriggered.Aren’t these things meant to stop System Tools disabling my computer?
I recommend you have our Malware Removal experts take a look. Please read this then start a new topic here. After they are done with you and you have a clean bill of health, I recommend you read my sticky on Practicing Safe Computing then re-evaluate your security defenses and computing habits and practices and adjust as necessary to prevent recurrence.
