I have a dual boot, win7 on C drive 80gb and Winxp2p3 on D drive 160gb. These OS's are on separate drives.
I boot into Winxp fine but don't have the same luck with my W7 drive.
This is the problem, everything goes as it should until it gets to the very last step. My computer restarts after I see it say "Starting Windows" just before the four colored picture appears before I see the desktop.
I have put this the taken out the ide cables and put them back in. The ide cables are brand new.
The molex is also brand new and delivering power.
What should I do?
PC specs are:
Desktop:
Drive C: Win7 Home Premium 80GB NTFS (IDE)
Drive D: WinXP Pro sp3 160GB NTFS (IDE)
Drive E and F: DVDRW's (sata)
Seagate 400GB USB drive w/4 Partitions (USB
Ext. Storage) (IDE)
Phenom II 5500 (3.2ghz) CPU
4GB DDR3 Ram
ATI 512mb PCIE card
Creative 128bit sound card
ASROCK M3A770DE Mobo
Earthlink DSL 6000bps
Floppy drive, 56K dialup modem, Optical Mouse,
MS Elite Keyboard, 21" crt monitor
When I ran Win7 startup and recover disk here is
what I got:
Problem signature 1 - 61.7600.1635
Problem signature 2 - 61.7600.1635
Problem signature 3 - Unknown
Problem signature 4 - 153
Problem signature 5 - external media
Problem signature 6 - 1
Problem signature 7 - no root cause
I should add that I replaced my motherboard, video card and cpu. Winxp boots fine. W7 is the problem drive.
Eset's software does not seem compatible with Windows 7 so that may not be able to use the software, you can try to contact them about an upgrade or patch for Windows 7.
You can view a list of security software that is compatible with Windows 7 at the following link: Title. microsoft.com/ windows/antivirus-partners/windows-7.aspx
Try booting in safe mode and do a system restore before the software was installed. You can access System Restore, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, open System Restore. If you can not boot in safe mode, start Windows 7 installation DVD and choose the Repair option in the setup screen and open system restore.
@ JohnCena what is this? He doesn't mention anything about that so why did you bring it up.
Sadly, Hulk, you didn't tell us anything about what happens when you attempt to boot into 7. Does it freeze, reset, or does it turn off? Also I do agree with trying to boot into safe mode. If you still have the problem please tell me the last driver listed. If it does boot up try system file checker. However you should consider a reinstall of both OS's instead of troubleshooting because windows really needs to be reinstalled after installing a new motherboard. Windows XP should be installed first because it won't recognize 7. Make sure that you back up your files first and download the necessary drivers.

That should fix this problem and should not affect your personal data. Keyword here is "should". Things happen so before doing this, definitely backup your personal data.
