Unable to use Windows live Msngr or Utorrent

    Hello,
I am trying to use UTORRENT to download some files. When I do the speed test I get two errors. One says a request to send or recieve data was disallowed because the socket is.. then it cuts off. I get the same error with Wondows Live Messenger. The second error I get is NAT-PMP or UPnP are not enabled, please check your preferences. I checked my preferences and these two things are indeed enabled. I have never been able to use either of these services, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot help you with file sharing programs including torrents due to our rules but you have bigger problems than your torrent program. Therefore consider this advice towards your issues with WLM and with upnp in general. I am not giving you advice specifically applicable towards file sharing. If you want my advice, stay away from files sharing programs because of the legality and security issues involved (ie viruses, spyware, etc).

Have you been able to use WLM in the past? If you have a router upnp has to be enabled in it so if you are using a router check it it's settings to determine if it is enabled. Unfortunately without knowing the make/model of your router, if you even have one, I can't really help you much on that. If you have a separate router one thing you can do is if possible disconnect your computer from your router & connect it directly to the modem. You might have to turn the modem off for a minute before connecting your computer to it. If you don't have any problems after doing so then your problem is with your router. if you don't have a router or your router is built into your modem then let us know.

Another consideration is that the ports used by upnp programs might be blocked if you are on someone else's network such as a school or work network. If that is the case for you then there isn't anything that you can do.
