Outlook 2007 hangs in Windows 7

I purchased Microsoft Office 2007 to install on my new Gateway computer using Windows 7 home professional. My problem is Outlook hangs and doesn't respond despite all my efforts. Even loading in safe mode it hangs. When it asks for server name and password I enter it then everything stalls. I have tried repairing it, and entering a new office profile. I also ran Microsoft fixit. Nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Since this is a brand new install, I think I would uninstall it, then reboot and run Windows Update to make sure the computer was fully updated, and run your malware scanner to make sure it is clean, then try installing it again.

I did as you suggested with the same result.

Hmmm, sorry. It was a shot in the dark I am afraid. The only other thing I have to offer is perhaps the .pst file is corrupt. You could search for this and rename it, then start Outlook. It will create another. If that does not work, and no one else has anything to offer, then I would suggest posting your question over at Microsoft Outlook » Windows Secrets Lounge as that site is focused on Office products and if anyone can help it should be them.

Yeah, please do keep us posted. Sorry I could not offer an easy solution.

The problem is solved! The trouble was caused by my configuration in outlook of the proper way to enter my user name which in my case was entered incompletely. Thanks All

What prompted you to check that?

I tried a lot of things. I decided to go to my email provider web site and look for answers. I found that they required that my whole email address needed to be entered in the setup for Outlook not just the user name alone. Simple answer. I guess I should have looked there first.

Yeah, that's something I just assumed you had. The domain name must be there too. That means your mail for that address was not working at all, not just links.

Note in the future, when you set up your mail in Outlook, there is a test button to make sure it works.
