No Sound on Reinstall
Hey guys
So I just went from XP to 7. Done a clean install, deleted my partition and made a new one and installed 7 Ultimate 64bit on it.
Problem is, now that I've installed Windows 7, I have no sound. The sound drivers are installed right, Realtek, but no matter what input I plug my speakers into, there's no sound. Realtek recognises it, as the input picture lights up and the pop-up, but there's simply no sound.
What do you think is up? I'm not using a sound card, and I downloaded the lastest revision of Realtek HD Audio (R250)

Problems with Realtek HD Audio and Win 7 seems to be common, and there have been several solutions, some working here, some there. I too had problems with my back speakers not working in 5.1 mode. I had to set it to 7.1, then disable the side speakers and suddenly the rears came to life!
Do make sure your sound device is enabled in the BIOS Setup Menu.
Other solutions I have seen:
1. Go to the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the systems tray.
on the top right of the audio manager you will see in blue underlined writing that reads "Device advanced settings" click it.
Next you should see two categories "Playback Device" and " Recording Device"
in the playback device category select the option that reads:
"Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously"
2. In device manager go to "sound, video & game controllers", right click on Realtek audio, and uninstall the Realtek drivers.
Then refreshed device manager and let windows 7 install its recommended drivers for my onboard audio. You don't get all the features found with the Realtek software, but sound works.
3. Install the current drivers for 7 from the Realtek site
Unplug speakers move them to a different sound port, then move them back to the speaker ports
