If XP is being upgraded to Windows 7 then copy them to a flash drive, burn to CD/DVD or upload to an internet storage site, install Win 7 then copy them back.

If Win 7 is on a new computer, then you can use a Crossover cable to copy data between the two computers or if you intend to keep both computers, you will need to buy a Router and once that is installed just setup sharing on the two computers so you can copy needed files from one to the other.

I, or others here, can provide more direction if you give us more info to go on.

You can transfer your files via USB flash drive, external hard disk, USB Transfer Cable or Network connection. Network cable is definitely the better choice for its speed and reliability. Windows Easy Transfer runs on 32-bit version of Windows XP.

In windows xp you shall find this option by clicking on start- all programs- accessories- system tools- files and settings transfer wizard.. follow the instructions and promts to copy the files or settings and then remove the media and then connect it to the new windows 7 pc and use the same option to copy the files to the new machine. But the option shows as windows easy transfer in windows 7.. If any confutions or questions please feel free to reply, and we will definitly help you.

If you have more than one drive (basically partitioned) on your pc then copy all your data to the drive where OS is not installed like if XP is installed on C then put all data in D or E drive. One doing it you can format the C drive with new OS (win 7).

If not having more than one drive then you need to take all data in external device.

    hope this helps you.
