Disk Consistency Check

Disk Consistency Check
So here lately everytime I turn on my computer, it has a little thing coming up saying it would like me to check for disk consistency. I have the option to skip it, which I usually do.
The first time it asked me, I let it do it. It got through all steps, then turned on my computer and I could use it as normal.
Then a few other times I've turned on my computer, I usually just skip it.
I just got done letting it do another consistency check, and I'm wondering why it started doing this.
It's not really a nuisance since I can easily skip it, but it's just a tad annoying and odd.
If anyone knows why it's doing this or how to make it not do it anymore, that would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Do you shutdown the computer normally or just turn off the power? Does Shutdown complete normally?
It's possible you have a failing hard drive. Look in Device Manager and see what brand it is then go to their web site and see if they have a drive utility you can download and create a bootable CD from to test the drive with.
You could also try doing a Clean Boot and run that way for awhile, then shutdown and then start again and see if the problem occurs. If not then something that is running on your computer is causing the problem. Unlikely but worth tlooking at.
