    Hi Guys,

I m sorry if i have posted this in wrong section.

I m facing this problem from a long time now. I installe windows 7. Also installed Nero 9. Burned dvd's. worked fine. After few days when i tried to burn, it didnt burn. it gave me error saying some problem with dvd rom. I tried reinstalling Nero 9. didnt work. i reinstalled windows 7 & nero 9. Every thing worked fine now. After few days again it stopped burning. I again reinstalled windows 7 bt i didnt installed nero 9 this time. i used the default windows 7 burning feature. everything worked fine again. bt again this was for few days. after few days it again stared giving me an error sayin maybe d firmware is not updated. so wenever i reinstall a fresh copy of win 7, burning works fine for few days & then after few days burning stops & it gives me error. Since it works in begining, m sure there is no prob in my writer bt m not able to understand where d problem is. I googled for this problem bt couldnt find a solution. guys pls help me as i cannot sit & reinstall windows again & again.

    Specs :-
    OS - Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (32 bit) version 6.1 (Build 7600)
Writer - Moser Baer DH-22A8S ATA Device.

Just to add, this thing worked perfect in Win Xp. And also searched for firmwae upgrade bt couldnt find 1.

    Thanks

That is a odd one. I am wondering if, after a couple days after your fresh install, an update does not come by and break it. I note you said the problem with the DVD ROM - the ROM would be the disk itself. Have you tried different brand of blanks?

"Just to add, this thing worked perfect in Win Xp."

Typical Micro$oft. Product released to manufacturing and distribution before it works right.

Personal view, I won't go any "higher" than XP SP2. I'm almost ready to dump MS and run Linux, UBUNTU, Mepis, or Knoppix on my machine.

Yeah, typical MS not supporting the many millions of various hardware products and configurations right out of the box - especially with product makers like Moserbaer - such a well known and popular brand name, and in this case, with blanks made from who knows what company. :rolleyes

With XP designed over 10 years ago, and designed to support legacy products from 10 years before that, and with XP not designed with today's computing conditions and most importantly, today's security environment, certainly moving to a Linux alternative would be your best choice. That said, viruses are on the move to Linux too.

For the record, it is the hardware maker's responsibility to make hardware drivers - not Microsoft's (or Linux).

Thanks guys for quick response. Its actually dvd writer. by mistake i mentioned dvd rom. And i have tried many different types of disks like Moser Bear disc's, sony disc's & also cheap 1's like National. When its a new install, it works fine no matter wat ever d disk make is. And wen d prob starts, it will give error in all disk's no matter hw good & branded it is. Guys pls help me as i hav to renistall windows near every month. Can it b d prob wid d windows i hav.

Please type in plain English. This is a technical forum, not a social network.

Since it works fine for a month, I don't see where it can be Windows - but I can't rule out an update from Microsoft causing it. If you are letting Windows automatically download and install updates, change your Windows Update settings to one of the other two settings that let you choose which updates to install. Perhaps it is installing a new driver that does not play well with your drive.

Searching for that model number on the Moserbaer website yields no results. Are you sure of the model number? In fact, I cannot see where they sell optical drives at all, yet their downloads page has a firmware updates for 3 different writers. Perhaps a call to their tech support will help. If not, you may end up getting a new drive from another maker that does support Win 7.

Thanks Digerati for your quick answer.
1st talking about the updates. I never keep automatic updates on. I do it manually. And in that also I have tried both things. i.e., initially a couple of times i had installed updates. so i thaught may be that might be a problem. so this time i installed a fresh copy of win 7 & till now i have not updared my system but then too it came up with this error. infact i hardly installed any software. This time i checked my machine carefully after installing every software. I install 1 software then check it for 2 days. i have installed Ultra iso but after installing that i checked my drive for 2-3 days. and it use to burn. then now suddenly it stopped.
2nd about Moserbear Drive. Moserbear drives were earlier known as Liteon. And this drive has 2 model no.'s. 1 is Moserbear DH-22A8S & other is Liteon iHAS322. If you go to Liteon website then you can find this drive but there is no firmware update out yet.
Also to add. I forgot to mention in my 1st post that i have 2 writers installed on my system. The other 1 is Lieton LH-20A1P. But this drive is no more burning. And thats the reason i got a new Moserbear a few months back. That time i had Xp on my pc. Things worked fine. Its creating problems only in Win7. I Mentioned about the other drive just to confirm that having 2 drives in win 7 is a problem or maybe there might be conflicts.

    Thanks.

It sounds like this drive isn't supported by 7. Although microsoft has been building in more and more drivers for current hardware the newer versions of Windows aren't as favorable towards legacy hardware so perhaps your drive is too old. Another possibility is that it is a brand not widely used or supported. You can aways install a newer more name brand drive.

Understand that firmware and drivers are two different things. Firmware is a program that is installed on the controller board of the drive itself. Drivers are installed in Windows to tell Windows how to access the unique features of that drive.

And thats the reason i got a new Moserbear a few months back
So this is a new drive you are having problems with? I don't understand why we can't find drivers for that model number.

See if this is of any help: Your CD or DVD drive cannot read or write media
