Thumbs down Shutdown takes 5 minutes!

I have been having this problem for a while now, it says, logging off, shutting down, then it stays at shutting down for about 5 minutes.

I have 6GB OF RAM! This is unacceptable!

I already changed wait to kill service to 2000 in reg edit and it did not change anything!

I will provide more information on request, can you help me fix this problem?

    Thanks.

    Try "cleaning" your computer
CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

PS. Just make shure you don't clean anything you want to keep .DS

More than likely this is caused by a program or service hanging up during shutdown
Try doing and Msconfig, under services, check the box "hide all Microsoft services" and disable anything you don't need. do the same under start up. reboot and see if problem is resolved. If not, do a dry boot, msconfig again, under services, check the box "hide all Microsoft services" and disable EVERYTHING. do the same under start up, disable EVERYTHING. reboot.

This may be some software willl runing on background and it closed slowly, This can be solve by checking what are the processers running on PC.....Check with taskmgr

Try this, next time you go to shutdown. press the windows key + R, this will bring up the run window, type "shutdown.exe /s /f" without the quotations. you will get a popup with a timer, after timer hits 0 it will shutdown computer and force any running applications to close, if it shuts down properly, than it's for sure a running process holding you up

There are any number of things that could cause this issue, we just eliminated the most likely candidates. Usually at this point I would get hands on with the machine and start troubleshooting hardware, but this is most likely not the cause. The simple answer is to backup your data, format and reinstall the OS, but this is a pain.
