Needed Info on .dll file
To whom it may concern,
My current OS is Win 7. One of my programs, palm desktop software, apparently won't operate in that OS environment. In attempting to uninstall the software, I receive an error message stating: "Error 0x80040702 Failed to load dll: "palmdevc.dll".
I searched online, found the dll file, place in a sub-directory on my computer but now I don't know what is my next step. Where is the file supposed to go? Once in the file is in its appropriate place can I then uninstall the software safely?
The most frustrating aspect of this is that every time I boot up my computer I receive an error message pertaining to COM1 not being available for HotSync. I just want the software off my OS. Any assistance would be appreciated.

According to this post, Palm Desktop 6.2 has been successfully run on Windows 7, though not officially supported. See here: Palm Desktop 6.2 and HotSync Manager (Windows)

To get rid of the software, give Revo Uninstaller Free a try. Even if the built-in uninstalller fails, Revo will continue and remove registry entries and files associated with the software.

I have Palm Desktop 6.22 running just fine in 64-bit Windows 7. The only problem is there is no support for Hotsync through USB connection in 64-bit mode and since Palm sold off that function to Access, there never will be. My Palm T|X has 11g wireless access so I now sync through the Network via wireless with no problem.

Apparently Einstein was referring to some of us who tend to forget critical items.
My Palm Desktop version is 4.0.1. I know, quite old and very out of date. However, it fit my needs on Win XP. After acquiring a new computer I decided to install this old program unto the Win 7 platform.
All I want to do is remove the software, but cannot. I do thank you for your input.

I downloaded Revo as suggested. It removed the program as indicated. Thank you. However, upon booting up the computer the following annoying message still appears:
HotSync Manager
The selected port COM1, is not available at this time. HotSync Manager will open the port when it becomes available.
How do I rid myself of this message? Not only does it appear on boot up, but each and every time I return to my computer after a break and my screen saver has been activated its back cluttering my desktop.

It seems like it still did not clean up properly. Is Hotsync running? If so, change it's settings to Network or USB and see if the message goes away.
Or, look in your Start Menu > All Programs > Startup and if Hotsync Manager is in there, and you don't want it, right click on it and select delete.

If any Palm/HotSync entries do not show up in Startup, use msconfig to see if it's starting from somewhere else.
Start, Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab. Look through the list and see if any Palm or HotSync entries are there. If they are, uncheck them, then click Apply then OK. Reboot and see if the error is gone.
