Flickering Screen on Office Access 2007 using Win 7
I really am not sure if this is the best place to post this issue, but I am sure someone will tell me!
My PC Desktop runs under Win 7 Pro. After opening Microsoft Access 2007 I use the Microsoft Office Button to click on Open. At this point the screen flickers wildly between a view of the Access home screen and the Open dialogue. I can only stop it by coming out of Access. If I go to a Access database listed under Recent Documents, however, there is no problem. So far I have done the following:
Run Office Diagnostics, which reports no issues.
Run all the other programs under Office 2007 Ultimate - no other program shows this issue
Run all my other non-Microsoft programs - none show this issue.
Updated my NVIDIA Graphics Driver
Checked I have the latest driver for my Dell Monitor (IN2010N Analog)
I find it hard to believe it is a hardware issue, given it only occurs with Access 2007, but for information:
Novatech Desktop PC with an Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Quad CP Q8300 @2.50 GHz
4.00 GB RAM
32-bit Op System (Windows 7 Professional)
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
Monitor: Dell IN2010N (Analog)
I have played about with the resolution setting, but that makes no difference.
Any suggestions welcome! Please let me know if any further PC information would help.

Gareth, you have the same question in at least four other forums.
MS Communities
thecodecage.com
google groups
msgroups
You need to pick one and stay with it.

First of all I did not post this on all the groups you have listed. I posted it on the Microsoft Groups only. I was careful to post it under the Access sub-group. This did receive an answer which was very much a case of can't identify any cause or cure and a suggestion that it might be a Windows 7 issue. It was at this point that I came onto D-A-L for assistance as this is my normal site for assistance, outside of particular Microsoft Office issues where I use Microsoft Forums. I have absolutely no idea how my query came onto the other sites so I am not happy with the tone of your reply.
Before such replies are made might I suggest it would well to check out the facts from the poster first.

Gareth, you're absolutely correct, please accept my appology. If I'd taken the time to read them more closely I would have seen they are all identical. Good lesson for me, thanks.

Have you tried this while booted to Safe Mode? If not, would you and post back with the results.
Also, please create a new, test, account and see if the same thing happens or not.

Many thnaks for your reply. Your comment much appreciated - I was probably a bit too sensitive as well - put it down to Wales losing to the old enemy at rugby!!
Anyway to business.
In both Safe Mode and when I run as a "test" user, Access is fine. No flickering problem. Only happens when I use it as me. Being the sole user of this PC I am the computer administrator.
Any help?

I have done some more experimenting with the follwoing outcomes:
I noticed that when I used the "Test" account the Personalization setting was on one of the Aero themes and, as per my previous email, the image was steady.
Mine was take from the Basic and High Contrast selection, as I prefer a blank screen (i.e. no images). When I changed to an Aero theme the image from Access>Open was much steadier, but there was still some flickering unlike the "Test" account.
Any theme I chose from the Basic and High contrast led to the same wild flickering
Any theme I chose from the Aero themes caused a slight flickering.
I still find it weird this happens in Access only.
Some progress maybe, though not fully cured.
Any thoughts?

Not sure if you answered this or not. If you chose one of the Basic and High Contrast themes from the Test account, does the flickering occur?
If no, then I would recommend copying all user data from your current account to the new test account then run with it for awhile and if all is well, delete the current, apparently corrupted, account.
Follow the directions posted in GeeksToGo.com- Boot to Safe Mode, login as Administrator
- Show hidden files by opening My Computer, Tools menu, View tab, check Show Hidden Files/Folders and uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes. Click Apply then OK.
- Create a new Administrator level account via Control Panel / User Accounts.. Pick a good name as you will be keeping it.
- Reboot the computer.
- Login with the new account so the folder structure under Documents and Settings gets created, then log off.
- Boot to Safe Mode, login as Administrator
- Browse to c:\documents and settings\OldUserAccount
- Select everything in that folder except the three files called ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log, and ntuser.ini.
- Copy all those files into c:\documents and settings\NewUserAccount. Reply Yes or Yes to all when duplicate folders or files are found.
- Reboot the computer and login with your New user account.
Once you confirm that all your documents are located in My Documents of the New user, you can delete the old profile.[/list]

I apologise for being a pain again, but having followed your advice I have come across a problem. Despite checking "Show Hidden Files And Folders" and unchecking "Hide Extensions For Known Filetypes" the 3 files ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log and ntuser.ini do not show up under the Old User Account so I cannot ensure I am not transferring them. I know it is critcal I do not transfer them, so I have stopped at that point just in case it causes problems. I have created a search for them under the Old User Account and they do not show up.
I am using Windows 7, but I think the process you describe is the same.
Any thoughts?

Some more information.
With Windows 7 the path to get to the Users is slightly different. From the C: drive there is no Documets and Settings as of old, but you go straight to Users. In my setup under Users there are a number of subfolders:
1. Current profile as Administrator. No ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log or ntuser.ini files listed
2. New profile (which I have also defined as Administrator). No ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log or ntuser.ini files listed
3. Public. No ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log or ntuser.ini files listed
4. Default. The ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log and ntuser.ini files are listed here.
This is very confusing as I thought these files had to be associated with a specific folder which is why they were not to be copied into another profile. So why are they not under the profiles, other than Default?
