    Windows 7 - Computer freezing a lot

I got 7 on the day it came out, however in the past few days my computer has been freezing a lot randomly.. The screen totally stops, the mouse moves but doesn't do anything when clicking things. The only way I've tried resolving this is restarting but the error has repeated itself. Also, I have restored to a previous point but it still persists..
Not sure what can be done to solve this?

Did you run Windows Update Advisor before installing Windows 7?

Please give details of your system
    • Right click on My Computer
    • Properties
The basis will show there, please post back with the relevant information.

    kind regards,

I have solved the problem, it was to do with uTorrent. Solved now.
However, windows explorer is still laggy, I have to wait a few second for each folder opening, is there any way of resolving this?
    Thanks

Right click on the task bar [or hit ctrl+alt+delete] and select start task manager. Watch this page to find out the percentage of the cpu percentage in use (at the bottom middle of the window) as well as the programs using the most memory. You can click on where it says cpu to have it arrange the programs with the highest cpu age on top. After watching this for a few minutes report back to us the typical usage overall and for any programs that seem to be running abnormally high.

    Suggest you read
Dumping Java cache improves browser performance
from this link. That should help with you lagging browser.
The default size of the Java cache on three PCs I checked was 1GB (or "1000MB," as shown in Figure 1). There's no particular reason why the cache needs to be this large, though reducing the cache to 20MB as Bruce did may be too small for some users. A more reasonable cache size is between 100MB and 200MB.
I have mine set at 20MB showing a vast improvement when using IE 8.0

Let us know if this helps,

    kind regards,

glowstix my recommendation still stands. You need to check task manager to determine which, if any, applications are hogging your cpu.

It is windows explorer that is lagging, not internet explorer..

There doesn't seem to be one program that has hugely abnormal CPU usage, though Windows Live Communications Platform and iTunes are the ones that cause the highest fluctuations, apart from Task Manager. CPU usage is around 40%, but peaking up to about 80% when Windows Live Communications Platform (but not very often) and about 60% when iTunes peaks.

    Hi Glowstix,

Apologies for confusing WE with IE.....My mistake, however the suggestion given for IE browser if you are running it would assist you.

Try this link. Many others are also having your issue, so you may find help in Windows Forums.

Could you reply to my first post in this thread in reply to your initial question please. The answer could make all the difference.

    kind regards,

Agreed. Also what are your systems specs? If you don't know you can run our hardware scan linked in my signature. What OS was originally on it? Perhaps you don't have a computer with enough resources to adequately run 7.

Sorry, for the late reply. Here are the system specs, Windows Vista was originally installed on my laptop, and I did run the Update Advisor before installing Windows 7.
